Simple Facebook Security Tips

INTERNET, SAFTY TIPS, SOCIAL MEDIA

Facebook is a great way of keeping in touch with friends. However, you need to be very careful about the type of information that you reveal… just in case it falls into the wrong hands.

Internet Security tips – to help you use Facebook more safely

With cybercriminals using a wide range of financial scams in order to try to steal money – and criminals also making bogus ‘friend requests’ in order to capture personal information – it’s wise to be careful in how you use Facebook. Here are a few Facebook security tips to help keep you safe:

Facebook Security Tips

  • Verify every Facebook contact
Make sure that the person you’re talking to… really is the person you think they are. Try to verify their identity.
  • Protect your banking and financial information
Never disclose anything about your bank accounts, credit cards, debit cards, or other financial information on Facebook.
  • Be wary of strangers
Don’t add or accept friend requests from people that you don’t know.
  • Keep your password secure
Taking a little extra care over your password can be a vital element in your Facebook security:

    • Devise a complex password that will be difficult for others to guess
    • Ideally, your password should use a mixture of letters, numbers, and symbols
    • Remember to change your password frequently
    • Don’t use the same password for Facebook and other websites. If the security of your password is compromised on one site, it may then be used to access your Facebook account
  • Secure your computer, your mobile devices, and your data
Install a rigorous anti-malware solution on your computer, smartphone, and tablet – to protect your devices against the latest computer viruses, worms, Trojan viruses, and other threats.

How To Bookmark Facebook Posts view them later

BROWSER, INTERNET, SOCIAL MEDIA

This tutorial explains how to bookmark Facebook posts.

Many a times we come across Facebook posts that are quite informative and we would like to go back to them in future. Unfortunately, Facebook doesn’t provide any way to bookmark posts (though, there has been buzz about Facebook implementing this feature, but it has not happened till now).

Thankfully, there are a few easy ways to bookmark Facebook posts that you like. Let’s go over them to see how you can go back to Facebook posts that you liked earlier.

Bookmark-Facebook

1. Bookmark Facebook Posts

Every browser comes with a bookmarking feature that lets you bookmark any webpage. You can use that feature to bookmark Facebook posts as well. Bookmarking the posts is the simplest method to save your Facebook posts, so that you can view them later.

Posts on Facebook can be easily bookmarked by these simple steps.

Step 1: Click on the timestamp of the posts. Below every post, there is a timestamp that shows when the article was posted like: “2 hours ago”, “ten minutes ago”, “yesterday at 2.30 p.m” etc. Just tap on that and the post will opens in a separate page of its own.

Facebook-Timestamp

Step 2: Now use your browser’s bookmarking feature to bookmark that page (you can also just press Ctrl+D.. try doing on this page). Now the page of that post is bookmarked on your browser and you can go to it anytime you want. (If you bookmark lot of pages, you might want to check out one of these bookmarking plugins for Chrome).

2. Chrome Extensions To Bookmark Facebook Posts

If you don’t want to go through the whole process of opening the post in a separate webpage and then bookmark it, then you would be happy to know that there are two Chrome extensions that let you directly bookmark Facebook posts.

The two chrome extensions are: Facebook-Bookmark Posts and Facebook Favorite.

Facebook Bookmark Posts: This one is my personal favorite. Just add this Chrome extension and you will see the “Bookmark” Option added to posts on your Facebook. Just tap on the Bookmark option present there, to save the particular post. After you install this Chrome extension, you will be able to see a Facebook logo added to your Chrome toolbar. Tap on the logo, and you will be able to see the links of the Facebook posts saved by you.

Facebook-Bookmark-Extensions

Facebook Favorite :  Similar to the above, this one is also a Chrome extension that adds an option called Favorite to the posts. And similar to the Facebook Bookmark Post extension, this too adds a Facebook logo, which when tapped on shows you the list of the posts that has been set as favorite by you. Click on the option that says Favorite, right below your posts, to add the post to the list of favorites.

3. Clip It

Apart from the traditional ways to save your Facebook posts, there is one more way to save the those worth reading posts posted on your Facebook wall. SocioClip is a popular website that let’s you save the Facebook posts.

To save the Facebook posts via SocioClip, you need to follow these steps:

Step 1: The first step is to install the SocioClip extension for Chrome. After installing this extension, you will be able to see an option called “Clip it” added to every post that is on your Facebook wall.

Step 2: The posts that you wish to “Clip” will be saved to your SocioClip account. Therefore, first of all you will have to get a free account on SocioClip. Now tap on the option that says “Clip it” below the post and it will open a small window that will require you to fill certain details about the post. After you fill in the details, tap on the Clip it Option to save the post to your SocioClip account.

These are some of my favorite methods to bookmark Facebook posts so that I can get to them anytime I want to. There are some other complicated methods as well (like, you can share a post on Facebook, and then choose it to share the posts as a “Private Message”. That will have your posts saved in your in your Facebook inbox, till you want). But you don’t need to be bothered with those, especially when there are so simple methods available.

Using Social Medias for successful Business

INTERNET, MONEY MAKING, SOCIAL MEDIA

Using Social Medias for successful BusinessSocial Media can be a powerful way to increase brand awareness, monitor your business reputation and offer better services. Nevertheless, using Social Media as part of your marketing strategy is not as simple as many people think. In order to have better control and better results with your Social Media campaign, build a flow chart starting with the following steps:

1. Research – Which Social Media are good for you

After conducting the research you must be able to answer at least the following questions:

Which Social Media networks can be used to reach my target audience?

One of the most important steps is to choose the right Social Media networks in order to successfully reach your target audience. Some social media are more business oriented (LinkedIn, Xing) while some others are great tools for finding news and articles (Twitter) etc. Your choice depends on your industry, the nature of your product/service, your language, the characteristics of your target audience etc.

Even if Social Media are considered a cost effective solution for lots of businesses, have in mind that sometimes traditional channels can be much more effective especially in B2B cases.

Using Social Medias for successful Business 2How do I use each Social Media?

Here are some key issues you should know before investing in Social Media websites:

  • Terms and Conditions
  • Posting, Replying
  • Community development
  • Monitoring
  • Measurement

What are the risks of getting involved in such networks?

The main risk in Social Media is that you can`t control what people say. In order to be able to manage a future crisis you must be flexible, monitor what users say about your company, locate potential issues and be responsive.

Tip: Negative comments or mentions with strong language and no arguments are not always worth answering.

A secondary but also important risk in Social Media is investing too much time without having a clear strategy or goals.  Remember that you should not focus all your strengths on Social Media and that there is not a single formula of success for all businesses/industries. Make sure you adopt the optimization philosophy according to the feedback and the results (experiment – measure – improve).

2. Define communication objectives

In social Media you have the option to speak and/or to listen. It is your decision whether to ignore what people say or to consider it a useful feedback and try to improve. By using Social Media you can add value to your services by understanding the needs of your customers. Just make sure you do it professionally as it is vital to define your objectives and align them to your corporate communication strategy.  Generally a change of customer’s opinion for a brand can be achieved only if a campaign has specific and clear objectives.

Tip: If your objectives target only on increasing website visits (traffic) then Social Media are not recommended.  Instead, try internet advertising options such as pay per click, display ads etc.

Using Social Medias for successful Business 33. Social Media Planning & Execution

A successful Social Media campaign, like in all communication campaigns, requires an action plan. So open an excel sheet, list the channels and schedule the various tasks (i.e. monitoring, replying, posting, community building etc), add corporate announcements, events and seasonal “material”. Remember that you should have clear objectives and predefined available resources for this campaign.

4. Community Development

Social Media community development is the process to build your global network within social media. This network can be a source of information related to your customers needs or to your brand reputation.

Follow people of common interests on twitter and start new discussions in groups on Social Networks like LinkedIn or Xing. Share content that your target audience will it find useful. Don’t try to reach millions of people in one day. After all community building is a long term process.

5. Cross Linking to other Social Media

Driving traffic through various social media embassies of your business can be an effective way to promote your business. This is because in this way you take advantage of the different characteristics that are supported in the various Social Media. So when you build accounts or when you post messages on Social Media don’t forget to cross link them.

6. Measuring Social Media

Measuring the effectiveness of a Social Media campaign depends on the objectives you have set. The various metrics that Social Media networks provide can be useful way to understand the reaction of the users on the messages that they receive.

I use it daily to create websites for friends, colleagues and customers, for both personal and business use.

All sites that I have created in WordPress have been perfect for their owners and have really impressed.

Know About – What is Google Blogger?

BLOGGER, GOOGLE, INTERNET, SOCIAL MEDIA, WEBMASTER, WEBSITE

Blogger is Google’s free tool for creating blogs. It can be found on the web at http://www.blogger.com.

Blogs, short for web-logs, are a form of online journal.

Getting Started With Blogger

You can use blogs for everything from updating your friends and family about your life, giving your own advice column, discussing your political views, or relating your experience in a topic of interest. You can host blogs with multiple contributors, or you can run your own solo show. You can even use Blogger to make your own podcast feeds.

Although there are fancier blog tools out there, the mixture of cost (free) and flexibility makes Blogger one of the best deals around.

Setting Up Your Blog

Setting up a Blogger account takes three easy steps. Create an account, name your blog, and choose a template. You can host multiple blogs with the same account name, so you only need to do that part once. This way you could separate your professional blog about your business from your personal blog about dogs, for instance.

Hosting Your Blog

Blogger will host your blog for free on blogspot.com. You can also use Blogger to automatically ftp your blog posts to your own web space. Make sure you have the correct server settings from your internet service provider, otherwise you may have unpredictable results.

Posting

Once your blog is set up, Blogger has a basic WYSIWYG editor. (What you see is what you get) This is not necessarily a bad thing. Most blogging tools do not have robust html editors, and the ones that do often require java or other plug-ins.If you need more formatting options and a larger window, you can use Google Docs to post to your Blogger blog. You could also do advanced editing with HTML. Blogger has an HTML tab to let you do this directly, although it does not allow JavaScript.

Email Your Posts

You can optionally configure Blogger with a secret email address, so you can email your posts to your blog. This is handy for making updates on the fly or updating from your cell phone or other mobile device.

Pictures

Blogger will let you upload pictures from your desktop and post them to your blog. You can choose the basic layout and size of your images, and they’ll be uploaded to Bloggers’s server space, so you don’t have to host the pictures on a different website.

That doesn’t mean you can’t post with pictures that you’ve hosted elsewhere on the Web. You can also use Picasa Web Albums to post pictures to your blog.

Google Video and YouTube videos can similarly be directly linked into your blog posts.

Know About – What is a Blog?

BLOGGER, GOOGLE, INTERNET, SOCIAL MEDIA, WEBMASTER, WEBSITE, WORDPRESS

Blog Definition:

A blog (also called a weblog or web log) is a website consisting of entries (also called posts) appearing in reverse chronological order with the most recent entry appearing first (similar in format to a daily journal). Blogs typically include features such as comments and links to increase user interactivity. Blogs are created using specific publishing software.

Variations of the term blog:

  • Blogging: The act of writing a post for a blog
  • Blogger: A person who writes content for a blog
  • Blogosphere: The online community of blogs and bloggers

The World Before Blogging:

There was a time when the Internet was just an informational tool. In the early life of the World Wide Web some 20 years ago, websites were simple and provided a one-sided conversation. As time went on, the Internet became more interactive with the introduction of transaction-based websites and online shopping, but the online world remained one-sided.

That all changed with the evolution of Web 2.0 (the social web) wherein user-generated content became an integral part of the online world. Today, users expect websites to provide a two-way conversation and web logs (or blogs) were born.

The Birth of Blogs:

The earliest blogs started in the late 1990s as online diaries. Individuals posted information on a daily basis about their lives and opinions. The daily posts were listed in reverse date order, so readers viewed the most recent post first and scrolled through previous posts. The format provided an ongoing inner monologue from the writer.

As blogs evolved, interactive features were added to create a two-way conversation. Readers took advantage of features that allowed them to leave comments on blog posts or link to posts on other blogs and websites to further the dialogue.

Blogs Today:

As the Internet has become more social, blogs have gained in popularity. Today, there are over 100 million blogs with more entering the blogosphere everyday. Blogs have become more than online diaries. Needs of Your Business Facebook Page

If you use social media marketing for your business, you probably use Facebook for reaching customers. But is your page stalled at only a few fans? Did you set it up and then rarely update it?

Facebook recently made some changes to their business pages, which have made Facebook into an even more effective tool for reaching potential clients and customers. Facebook business pages give your company a home on the most visited website on the Internet. That means that you have a huge number of potential fans, but also that it’s easy to get lost. So if you want to start tapping the true potential of your Facebook page, here are five things that your business page needs:

1. Smart promotion

Don’t just send your Facebook page to everyone in your personal friends list. Put a link to your Facebook page in your business email signature so every email you send is accompanied by a reminder to “Like” your business. If you have a email marketing list, send out reminders about your page and encourage clients to join the Facebook page. Send these out repeatedly. Make sure that there is a blurb on all your printed materials touting your Facebook page. If your business has a physical office, put a small sign on the front desk or the window reminding visitors to become Facebook fans.

2. Personal involvement If you host events, take plenty of photos and encourage fans to tag themselves in those photos, or tag them yourself. Don’t use the page strictly for serious marketing–encourage fans to send questions and comments, and occasionally just throw out a fun question for your fans. (i.e., “We’re ready for summer here at Vital Design–what’s your plan to beat the heat?”) Letting fans know that there are real people behind the Facebook page will help fans feel connected to you and your business. And yes, this will take some time, but remembering to log in every day and spend even a short amount of time updating the page and communicating with your fans makes a big difference.

3. Widgets Facebook now lets you put “Like” buttons and other Facebook widgets on your business Web page, so that everyone who will be reminded to like your Facebook page every time they visit. If you have a Facebook page, you must promote it on your homepage–these widgets are a great, graphically appealing way to do that. You can get the plugin in the Facebook Developer’s page here, and there are more advanced tips about adding and tracking social media buttons at Yoast.

4. Link up with personal pages Put a link to your business’ Facebook page in the “Something about myself” box under your Facebook profile photo. You can also link to your business Facebook page in a status update using the @ function. Putting an @ before your business name will tag your business page in the post, which will put a link right in your status. Encourage the staff of your business to do this too, if they’d like. Also consider using a program like HootSuite or Tweetdeck that will allow you to share news and links to all your social media accounts at once.

5. Mobile connectivity Fans can link up to your Facebook page from their phones if their  phones are verified as a mobile device on their account. You’ll need 25  “likes” and a verified username. Then  people can just send a text to 32665 with the words fan (your  username). This could work great if you are hosting a mobile  event because attendees could like your page from the audience. Texting to Like a page is also useful in  TV and radio spots.
